Note 1: The Medley lead is a short remnant of a notion that the F.E.C. had some time ago to run a line way west of civilization down to Miami. This would have avoided the many grade crossings and slower speed limits on the tracks through the populated cities of Florida's east coast. In fact, the K-branch from Fort Pierce down to Belle Glade is the northern portion of this imagined line. Had they completed the project it would have run along the path occupied by U.S. 27, which coincidentally runs right through Medley.
