Notes

Note 1: The entire Landover sub is essentially a long yard used mostly for storing coal hoppers to be delivered to PEPCo down on the Pope's Creek sub. Since it is dark territory, crews are frequently heard calling the dispatcher for permission to line the switches and make their moves in opposition to the current of traffic, even though there is no mainline overhead traffic through here any more. Not even the Pennsylvania RR catenary runs overhead any longer.

Note 2: On 5 September, 2003 the CSX BD (former CQ) desk's territory was extended northward across the former Landover sub track to M Street and mileposts were renumbered from RO to Riverdale on the Alexandria Extension to conform to the RF&P milepost system. CSX BC (former AU) desk controls the Alexandria Extension from Riverdale through Anacostia Jct to M Street (exclusive of the interlocking) as well as the Landover subdivision.

Note 3: During July, 2006 a major track re-alignment was completed at Anacostia Junction. Historically, this was the point at which the B&O Alexandria Extension joined the Pennsylvania Railroad double-track mainline headed south to Potomac Yards. After the change, all four Landover sub tracks converge to a ladder that ultimately connects to track #3 of the newly double-tracked Alexandria Extension. The modern day through route is the former B&O line while the former Pennsy line has been deprecated.

Note 4: The New Connection junction (to the B&O) and all associated crossovers are considered part of the “New Connection”. The north end of Catenary Pole and Edgemoor sidings comes in to this complex. The “Cat Pole” is so named because it runs where some of the poles supporting the Pennsy electrified catenary lines once stood.

Note 5: The Inferno track is the stub track that continues south from the Edgemoor siding beyond the switch that connects back to track A. It is used by the car shop to perform minor maintenance. The south end of the Inferno track is immediately north of the site where the old yard office once stood before it was damaged by fire.
