DIVISION CHANGES
CSX has changed the names of its Divisions and jiggered some of the territories in them. An alert reader found evidence in FRA filings and just alerted me to this. I obviously need to spend much more time than I currently have to understand the changes and present them properly here.
For what it's worth, in my recent travels CSX dispatchers still identify with the 2-character desk codes same as ever, but I'll have to listen more closely to authoritays that they give out for the Division names.
As always, this list thrives on your input, so thank you to all who take the time to send me a note. Think of it like a manual wiki with me stuck in the middle.

The table is ordered by Dispatcher Desk, the left-hand column. Use your web browser's page search function (Control-F) to find subdivision names quickly, or just browse the table to see how things are laid out. If I ever figure out how to program up fancy web pages this might be more fancy, but for now this will have to do.
It has some glaring inaccuracies since I don't have all the changes that CSX has made since the Conrail split, the decentralization and re-centralization of the Dufford dispatch center in Jax, so I need your input to keep it accurate.
Entries that do not conform to standard CSX notation are usually former Conrail territory. Otherwise, it's probably an error.
Please send any corrections to bote.prodigy@gmail.com.
There is not enough room for thanks to all those who have contributed to this work. Keep those cards and letters coming. THANK YOU!

Updated 2023.09.30 — I have started, but not finished, changing to the new division names. The Florence and Louisville divisions were parted out, so I don't know how to find out the new homes of the old subdivisions. They couldn't have done this in a simple way, could they?

Updated 2010.04.20 — Corrected "train to dispatcher" notation to read simply "dispatcher" on former Conrail lines in the Albany division, such as the NF desk. Updated 2009.01.11 — Big doings in the Atlanta Division: AG -> AA desk, AF -> AB (now with S&NA South), AI -> AC, BG -> AD, CN -> AE desk. The $64 question is: Do these desks still control the same subdivisions?
Updated 2009.01.05 — Alabama Mineral sub struck off list, leased to Omnitrax years ago; why didn't somebody tell me sooner? :-) Also updated lease information on Selma and Southern Alabama subs.

Notes
Note 1: The Kingsland and Fernandina subdivisions were leased to First Coast Railroad. First Coast is a subsidiary of Rail Link, Inc., a Jacksonville-based short-haul railroad line and a wholly owned subsidiary of Genesee & Wyoming, Inc., a Connecticut-based holding company, effective 2005.04.09 The “Fernandina Rocket” transfers cars to FCRR at Yulee, FLA.
Note 2: The Cowen subdivision and connecting branch lines were leased to Appalachian & Ohio, a subsidiary of WATCO which is based in Pittsburg, Kansas. Their first day of operation on this line was Friday 2005.03.25 while their last day was sometime in May 2006 as they claim they could not sustain a sufficient inventory of hoppers to meet demand. They reportedly were taken over by Paducah & Louisville, as newer smokestack scrubber technology should make softer West Virginia coal more desirable. CSX dispatches up to about mp42; A & O dispatches east of Hampton Jct. as well as the Pickens sub.
Note 3: The Piedmont subdivision was sold to Buckingham Branch, which already operates a non-contiguous branch line to Dillwyn west of Richmond, Virginia. Operations began about 2005.02.14 or so. On 2007.03.26 BBRR took over dispatching operations for its properties including Piedmont, Washington, and North Mountain subdivisions. They also switched from using CSX rules to GCOR rules.
Note 4: In Spring 2007, CSX began refarming the road and dispatcher channels used on its former Conrail properties, many of which used one channel for both road and dispatcher communications. In some cases the road channel remained the same with the addition of a second channel to “buzz up” the dispatcher. In other cases, entirely new channels were assigned. If you find a channel in use that does not appear correctly here, please let me know so that I can update this table. Thanks!
Note 5: Various properties have been spun off to shortlines, such as those lined out in the AR desk territory. CSX continues to shed branch lines in favor of its main trunk lines for hauling coal and bulk commodities, as well as time-sensitive intermodal shipments.
Note 6: CSX leased the Alabama Mineral sub to Omnitrax sometime prior to 2005. It is now named the Alabama and Tennessee River Railway. Frequencies listed here are the old CSX channels; unknown if Omnitrax kept these or changed to new frequencies.
Note 7: CSX leased a portion of the Selma sub to Meridian & Bigbee Railroad from the G.E. Plastics plant in Burkeville, Alabama to Western Junction. They have trackage rights over CSX to reach Montgomery, Alabama.
Note 8: Effective March 8th, 2009, the NJ (River Line) dispatcher desk was abolished. The River, Castleton, and Port subdivisions will all be handled by the NI dispatcher at all times. Radio channels have not changed. Also, at some later time the Harrisburg sub was merged with the Trenton sub.
Note 9: Effective January 1, 2006 the St Louis subdivision was leased to the Evansville Western Railroad (a subsidiary of Four Rivers Transportation as is Appalachian & Ohio and Paducah & Louisville) - Steve Miller
Note 10: The Hoosier subdivision is out of service as it is being used to store cars north of New Albany, IN; Pillsbury is switched off of Vernia siding, representing the only activity on this line.
Note 11: The former Conrail/New York Central Olin Secondary is now operated in Indiana by the Vermillion Valley RR.
Note 12: The Orlando sub was activated as of 3 November, 2011. The Orlando sub was carved out of the Sanford sub which created the oddity of the Stanton coal lead connecting to the Orlando sub, but being administratively part of the disjointed Sanford sub. Taft yard also remains part of the Sanford sub. The JH desk has been abolished to hand off dispatching to the Central Florida Rail Corridor in Sanford, which handles the SunRail commuter trains operating between the sub's limits of South Deland and Poinciana holdout signal. The Carters sub extends from South Lakeland up to Poinciana.
Note 13: The Syracuse Terminal sub was born on 24 January, 2011 09:30 out of the Mohawk sub in order to abolish the NE dispatcher desk. Subdivisions were distributed to other desks as listed.
Note 14: The NA desk no longer dispatches the New Bedford nor Fall River subdivisions (Albany Div.); they were sold in May 2010 to the State of Massachusetts for the South Coast Commuter Rail project, while freight is handled by Massachusetts Coastal RR.
Note 15: Amtrak now has a long term lease on the CSX Hudson Sub in New York State. CSX retains freight rights over the Hudson sub. Amtrak now dispatches both the Hudson & Post Road Subs on 160.725MHz (AAR 41). This is also the Amtrak Road channel for both lines.
Note 16: As of 18 May, 2013 the NG dispatcher controls the expanded Buffalo Terminal Sub from the EAS at CP-15 to the EAS CP-382 along with the Niagara, Belt, Lockport subs and Somerset RR. The NF dispatcher controls the shrunken Rochester Sub from EAS CP-382 to the WAS CP-296 along with the West Shore sub.
Note 17: As of 3 August, 2013 the Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad (MBCR) took over train dispatching from CSX between Cove Interlocking (just east of Back Bay Station) to CP 45 in Worcester. The CSX NA NB Train Dispatcher continues to control CP 45 and west, as well as all the other trackage within the existing territory, only the mainline is affected by this change. The MBCR Worcester Line uses AAR channel 20 (160.410 MHz) for dispatching and road communications. The existing CSX channels continue to be used on CSX's property.
Note 18: As of 18 August, 2017 the abolishment of the ND desk began. 1st and 3rd shifts have been terminated; the 2nd shift terminated a short time later. NF desk gets the Baldwinsville, Fairgrounds, and Syracuse Terminal subdivisions, while the NB desk gets Fulton, Montreal, and Saint Lawrence subdivisions.
Note 19: On 9 September, 2018 the Decatur & Eastern Illinois Railroad, a WATCo subsidiary, began operating the former CSX Decatur Subdivision and Danville Secondary lines between Decatur, IL, Montezuma, and Terre Haute, IN. If you know of any changes to the radio channels used please send us an e-mail note (see bottom). Thanks.
Note 20: In early 2019 Florida, Gulf and Atlantic RR, a subsidiary of RailUSA created by Gary Marino of RailAmerica fame, purchased the Tallahassee, P & A, and Bainbridge subdivisions from CSX with operations to begin Summer 2019.
Note 21: As of 1 April, 2019 the Boston and Berkshire subdivisions have moved from the NB to the NC desk. Same radio channels. Apparently the NB was abolished and its territories moved to the NF desk.
Note 22: The former Pan Am Railways dispatchers have been designated as EA (former PAR District 1) and EB (former PAR District 2). They cover the New England Division. There are no desk-specific dispatcher frequencies; the old MEC road and B&M duplex (Dispatcher->Train and Train->Dispatcher) frequencies remain in use.

Railroad Line Prefix Codes
Here is Steve Miller's summation of how these line prefix codes came to be, with a few additions by me:
CSX adopted the former Seaboard Coast Line system of assigning prefixes to track segments. On the SCL all Seaboard Air Line track was prefixed “S” and all Atlantic Coast Line track was prefixed “A”. For instance, the ex SAL main (mostly abandoned, but might be coming back) from Richmond, Virginia to Hamlet, North Carolina and on south is the “S” line. Each branch would then pick up an additional character such “SA”, “SB”, “SAA”, etc.
Former Chessie territories were assigned prefixes similar to the Seaboard method above. “C” prefixes are used for all C&O lines including Hocking Valley, Pere Marquette, NF&G, etc. “B” prefixes are used for all B&O and Western Maryland lines.
All Conrail prefixes begin with “Q” and in most cases the second letter has some relation to the lines previous name. For example the Rochester Subdivision, part of the Conrail Chicago Line, has the “QC” prefix.
The one major difference in this system is the former L&N territory. For some reason the policy of putting an “L” in front of the former L&N prefixes wasn't enacted, instead zeros are used to fill the leading blank spaces. For instance the former Monon trackage has the “Q” prefix on the timetables but in reality the prefix is “00Q”, the LCL Subdivision is “00T”, the Bruceton Subdivision is “00N” etc.
The “Z” prefixes denote former C&EI territory.
On original L&N territory all mileposts are measured from the former headquarters of Louisville, Kentucky. For instance the Main Line Subdivision starts at Louisville and goes south to Nashville, Tennessee. At Park City, Kentucky (MP 90.7) a branch goes east to Glasgow, Kentucky. On most other CSX predecessors the junction switch would be milepost 0 for the branch and would increase to the end of the line. Instead, on the L&N, the milepost continues increasing from 90.7 to the end of the track, with the only change being a different prefix.
Zero-Prefix Lines
The following lines have an “invisible” string of zeroes preceding the alphabetic codes. The zeroes are replaced from right to left, so the PD subdivision, for example, will be properly coded 00K, with K replacing the rightmost zero. The St. Louis line is coded 0ZJ, with two alphabetic characters replacing two rightmost zeros, and so forth. Many of these lines are in former L&N (Louisville & Nashville) territory, others came from C&EI.
